- Worked in a small community in Querétaro, Mexico in the four schools spanning ages 5-18 - Completed a community diagnostic including interviews with community members, Participatory Action for Community Analysis (PACA) tools and research into the history and demographics of my community - Integrated sustainable environmental projects and education through co-facilitated classes and projects. - Implemented over 15 environmental projects, gave over 70 environmental classes and created two original guides for environmental projects

I digitized over 55,000 herbarium specimen sheets at the Garrett Herbarium. I also databased these files in Intermountainbiota, a database of herbaria for the intermountain west. I became proficient in Lightroom and uploading and linking image files through iDigBio and Intermountainbiota.

I looked for evidence of domestication of Chenopodium sp. in southeastern Utah. This research included floating soil samples to isolate macrobotanicals, extracting seeds and plant material and then identifying, if possible, the seeds present. I used a scanning electron microscope and the Natural History Museum of Utah's seed comparative collection to aid in seed identification.

During this internship I used the WEPP online interface to model forest disturbances over the last 30 years with the goal of investigating the effect of disturbances (like fire, bugs, harvest) on erosion and subsequent water quality downstream in a few pilot areas. To reach this goal we created a model that uses WEPP outputs and is run within ArcMap. The model analyzes the user's watershed of interest after a fire and outputs the soil erosion and nitrogen values associated with the erosion. We created this model to assist county officials and law makers with policies for managing erosion and its impacts within and downstream of watersheds.

My primary goal was to engage the children, ages 5-12 years old, at the homeless shelter in reading. I hoped to reinvigorate the program by implementing a variety of activities associated with the books we read. In addition, my responsibilities included recruiting committed University of Utah students to volunteer on a weekly basis, meeting with the community partners to ensure a lasting relationship and actively participating in the book club itself.
