At Mercer I advised large and small corporate clients about their in-house superannuation funds. I was largely focussed on those with defined benefit funds, particularly local subsidiaries of US companies. While a detailed knowledge of the US accounting standard FASB87 (reporting super liabilities in a company's accounts) hasn't been much use to me in my more recent career, this was a perfect springboard for a career in SMSFs.
