The Wills and Wishes Clinic is a clinical legal program designed to assist local community members complete wills, make enduring powers of attorney, and appoint medical treatment decision makers. Whilst providing a valuable community service, the clinic provides interning students with substantial practical legal experience. The clinic is delivered by La Trobe University students in partnership with the Whittlesea Community Legal Service. Students who undertake the program work directly with clients, running all elements of client files. They conduct intake interviews involving sensitive end of life discussions, draft correspondence, wills, EPOAs and MTDMs and attend to all areas of file management from opening files to closing and related data entry. The clientele is diverse, and students gain confidence in adjusting their communication strategies to the needs of the clients, managing their time and workload.Meg completed her 12 week internship at the clinic in June 2024. During this time Meg worked effectively with clients, her colleagues and her supervisor to produce work of a high standard. Meg made a sound contribution to the work of the Wills & Wishes Clinic, displaying initiative in her work and professionalism in her dealings with clinic clients.
