As a qualified lawyer with deep and broad public/private sector experience in data protection, privacy, regulation, rights assessments, investigations, I help clients navigate the complex and evolving landscape of data lifecycle management, compliance, and governance including AI governance and compliance with the Digital Services Act.I am a certified privacy professional with CIPP/E and CIPM credentials from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). I have also been designated by the IAPP as a Fellow of Information Privacy (FIP).I am a senior associate at Pembroke Privacy where we provide advice on all aspects of data protection compliance and advice on AI governance.Previously, I was a senior regulatory lawyer at the Irish Data Protection Commission (and Assistant Commissioner) where I led large investigations into possible contraventions of data protection law, involving domestic and multinational organisations based in Ireland. I also engaged at a pan-European level at the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) with representatives from different member states in drafting guidance by EDPB in Brussels.My passion for privacy and data protection and governance of emerging technologies such as AI stems from my extensive background in law, policy, human rights, within which I have a particular interest in and passion for children's rights-specifically in the context of emerging technologies and regulation. I hold a master's degree in international and comparative law with a focus on human rights law from Trinity College Dublin. I also have a degree in Spanish and politics from University College Dublin. I speak Spanish and French.In addition to my legal and privacy expertise, I have a strong commitment to social justice and pro bono work. I have been a regular volunteer with Free Legal Advice Centre (FLAC) and the Public Interest Law Alliance (PILA) in Ireland as well as other international human rights organisations. In 2014, I received the Bar Council Human Rights Award for my voluntary work on the Magdalene Commission.
