In my role as ED for Jean Appolon Expressions Haitian Contemporary Dance Company, I am committed to ensuring that JAE is a vehicle for anti-racism. I work to expand our educational arts programming and organizational partnerships, both centered around social justice, for youth and adults alike. I am committed to focusing deeply on bringing anti-racist conversations and activism to white spaces and audiences to bridge gaps and support conversation. Jean has built a rich, diverse dance community that has provided a healing space for many. My primary charge as ED is to partner with Jean to expand this community, using dance, artistry, and cultural education as a mechanism for social change. I am so grateful for all of you in the JAE community who support us in this mission.

Jean Appolon Expressions (JAE) celebrates and advances Haitian folkloric dance by building a contemporary cultural community that produces professional performances, educational opportunities and dance training for people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.

I combine movement with education. I am available for remote and — as the COVID19 situation improves — (safe) in-person early childhood tutoring and yoga sessions in the greater Boston area. I provide academic tutoring sessions for ages 4-10 covering foundational skills in topics of your selecting (e.g. reading, writing, math, science, social studies, coding), catered to your learner’s needs. Typically these sessions would recur 1-3 times per week and last from 30-90 minutes.

Children are curious and natural learners. Given opportunity, they will flourish. My primary goal as an educator is therefore to create a supportive classroom environment that accommodates and supports a diverse range of learning needs and abilities. Once this is established, my aim is to instill curiosity about the world by exposing students to new cultures. This in turn is intended to impart empathy and global competency in my students, which will equip them with the tools required to thoughtfully engage with their global peers and, ultimately, to make a positive difference in the world.

I strive to combine my understanding of child development with close observations and the emerging interests and inquiries of children, to create strategic conditions, that help engage and invite children to make life discoveries, generate new ideas, experiments, and hypotheses within the context of their play. My hope is to guide children to learn through living.

My mission as an educator is to teach children how to become resilient individuals. I believe that instilling empathy and global competency in my students will give them the tools required to make a positive difference in the world today.

At IA, I guided and supported children through educational experiences that were both engaging and meaningful. My co-mentor and I developed interactive units of study/lessons that wove together core academics, the arts, outdoor and physical education. We continuously involved our students in this planning to engender a collaborative learning environment.

At Fuerte Fitness, I provided a variety of group and semi-private classes that had a solid foundation in safe, anatomically correct techniques. My adult Barre class incorporated a mix of ballet, yoga, pilates and light weight training. The Dynamic Stretching and Strengthening class included a powerful Vinyasa flow, as well as resistance stretching, with the support of several props. I also taught private/semi-private dance classes for children and adults in the mediums of ballet, modern, and jazz.

During my time at Newton Public, I was a lead Kindergarten, K/1 split and First Grade teacher. While following a rigorous public school curriculum, I regularly integrated music, movement, yoga and visual arts into lessons. I also designed a variety of lesson plans and units of study that incorporated educational technology.

I used ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) to teach a young child with Autism in a one-on-one and inclusive classroom setting. I frequently modified the general curriculum to meet this child's specific academic, social, emotional and physical needs.

I managed an afternoon program for 20+ Kindergarteners. During this time, I regularly created thematic units and was responsible for the classroom environment and parent communication. In the extended day program, I taught a variety of lessons to children in grades K-5.
