My responsibilities were primarily forest inventory: surveys of forest lands and documentation of species present according to SILVAH protocols; accurate identification of local tree and shrub species and use of forestry tools (DBH tape, clinometer, increment borer, etc.) to gather information pertaining to stand characteristics.

Conducted surveys of gypsy moth populations on residential and state properties and assisted in gypsy moth suppression activities. Worked in detection surveys of emerald ash borer and walnut twig beetle/thousand canker disease. Performed suppression treatments for hemlock woolly adelgid using ArborJet trunk injection and Keuritz soil injection systems and assisted in maintenance of pesticide equipment.

Oahu, Hawaii

Conducted ground and aerial surveys for targeted incipient invasive species on the island of Oahu. Responsible for identifying target species and documenting their locations using Esri ArcPad and ArcMap software. Pest treatments were conducted according to species-specific protocols and included manual removal, herbicide application, hand tools and/or chainsawing. Surveys were conducted throughout the island on public lands and required hiking and camping, often in remote areas and in difficult terrain.
