Profile bio

About Meg Fowler

I am a project scientist on the Atmospheric Modeling and Predictability (AMP) and Terrestrial Sciences (TSS) teams at NSF NCAR CGD. My primary interest is in understanding how the land and atmosphere interact at sub-grid scales (<100 km) and how that can be represented in climate models (specifically CESM). More broadly, I'm interested in surface-atmosphere interactions and hydrometeorology. Previously, I was a postdoctoral researcher with CIRES, working with NOAA's FACETs program to create probabilistic forecasts of western US soil moisture. I received my PhD from the University of California - Irvine in Earth System Science, where I worked with Dr. Mike Pritchard on a number of projects over the course of four years. My dissertation work focused on the impact of irrigation on non-local precipitation, the role of plant physiological responses to elevated CO2 in altering future flood frequency and streamflow, and the ability of the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) to modulate tropical cyclone formations in the West Pacific. I have experience coding in both Python and MATLAB, and am familiar with Fortran and shell scripting as well.

Listed skills include Research, Meteorology, Tropical Cyclones, Tutoring, and 13 others.
