I'm an award-winning essayist, poet, and author of two books: MOBILE HOME: A MEMOIR IN ESSAYS (University of Georgia Press), winner of the AWP Award Series for Creative Nonfiction and critically acclaimed in The New York Times, Kirkus, Booklist, and elsewhere; and MAPMAKING (BkMk Press), awarded the John Ciardi Poetry Prize and called "a miracle of invention" by Alice Fulton. My writing has been cited as distinguished in Best American Essays 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2023, awarded the Arts & Letters Prize in Creative Nonfiction and the Confrontation Poetry Prize, and has appeared in AGNI, The New York Times, Crazyhorse, Hotel Amerika, Alaska Quarterly Review, River Teeth, TriQuarterly, American Poetry Review, Colorado Review, PBS Newshour, Poetry Daily, and Prairie Schooner, among other publications.I'm the founder and editor of Farsickness Journal (Farsickness.com), an online journal of literary travel. It includes the author interview series, Four Questions on Farsickness, featuring writers for whom place is central to their work.I hold an MFA from New York University's Creative Writing Program and a B.A. in English from Tufts University. I grew up living in seventeen homes across four continents (the subject of my book, MOBILE HOME) and today live with my family in the San Francisco Bay Area and Brittany, France.
