Providing technical and troubleshooting support to current and potential customers of MaxCyte’s Scalable Transfection Systems. Currently working with customers in the Mid-Atlantic and Central US.

As a member of the R&D team my work supports improving our cell loading technologies through tissue culture studies on primary and immortal cell line, as well as developing protocols for cell therapy and protein production. Current projects are focused on verification and validation of next generation consumables and instrument software upgrades. This position also involves collaborating with MaxCyte’s marketing and sales associates, providing support to our scientific team working in the field, and occasional customer facing interactions for instrument training and troubleshooting.MaxCyte is a customer focused cell transfection company with a unique flow electroporation platform utilized in discovery, development, clinical, and manufacturing applications.

Research on the cell biology of bacterial pathogenesis and the innate immune response to bacterial infection. Project involved characterizing BAI1 receptor coupled heterotrimeric G proteins through a luciferase-based transcriptional reporter assay. Trained and mentored undergraduate students.

Cell biology research focused on the role of cholesterol in regulating membrane trafficking in the insulin secretory pathway. Responsibilities included independent research projects requiring experimental design, execution and analysis (including molecular biological, biochemical and immunofluorescence techniques), statistical analysis and organization of data for publication, generation and maintenance of genetically altered insulinoma cell lines, management of transgenic mouse colony, general laboratory management, ordering and inventory. Trained and mentored undergraduate students. Co-first author of publication in Molecular Biology of the Cell. First author and contributing author on two further publications in progress.Mastered skills and techniques: DNA extraction, genotyping, molecular cloning, PCR, lentiviral constructs, CRISPR, mammalian cell culture, animal tissue harvest, RNAi mediated knockdown and recovery, ELISA, gel electrophoresis, western blotting, widefield and confocal microscopy, mouse colony maintenance, lab management and purchasing, data analysis and statistics.

Biological engineering research working to develop a forensic technique for the tagging and tracking of explosives using bacterial endospores. Genetically engineered a unique bacterial taggant DNA sequence in Geobacillus thermoglucosidasius. Designed and fabricated a qPCR microdevice as part of the lab-on-chip for taggant detection system. Trained and mentored undergraduate students.

Peptide and Organic ChemistryWorked closely with graduate students on the purification and synthesis of peptides for Alzheimer’s disease research. Participated in a cellular study of light sensitive phthalocyanines and their ability to cause apoptosis. Worked independently on the multi-step organic synthesis of a bis-guanidine compound that binds to the TAR RNA of HIV-1. Responsible for the setup, organization, and experimentation in a microbial division of the laboratory during the initial stages of a project to incorporate unnatural amino acids into the chromophore of the green fluorescent protein sequence to alter the fluorescence wavelength.
