My practice centres on creating abstract architectural spaces through the reinterpretation of our built environment. In painting and sculpture, I explore the interplay between a building’s structure and its purpose, and how this is radically altered in its simplified form. My paintings isolate and glorify the make-up of shapes that surround us, revealing aspects of commonly used space that often go unnoticed and unappreciated. I concentrate on public places in cities I have visited. Subjects have included a bridge, an escalator in a shopping centre and a garden wall, places that would be familiar but have been deconstructed to a skeletal geometric composition.
