I am a hazards geographer studying the effects of natural hazards on community social vulnerability. This work has primarily been with nocturnal tornado exposure in the Southeast U.S. Using mixed-methods, I research how practitioners and the public can implement resilience building strategies which build capacity to address local vulnerabilities. When I am not focusing on my academic/professional pursuits, I enjoy cultivating my passion for gardening or spending time within the Great Smoky Mountains in East Tennessee, a place where I am deeply connected to the environment, local history, and Appalachian tradition.
