- Assessed the adhesion between a nickel-based superalloy and a ceramic top coat in a thermal barrier coating system in terms of high temperature oxidation growth and temperature induced stresses across the interface- Performed isothermal high temperature oxidation tests on three nickel-based superalloys: IN-738, CMSX-4 and René N5- Analysed oxidation scales using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-Ray diffractometer- Assessed results of oxidation tests in terms of established thermodynamic, kinetic, diffusion and stress theory- Determined the efficacy of two different thermal barrier coating systems consisting of a René N5 substrate, no bond coat and different top coats: a dense vertically cracked (DVC) top coat and a columnar top coat- Conducted Micro-CT scans of thermal barrier coating systems using a Bruker Micro-CT scanner
