• Represented ASCD on Capitol Hill throughout the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Created in-depth analyses of proposed legislative changes, engaged ASCD members in all aspects of reauthorization to ensure educator voices were considered during the process, influenced inclusion of multiple measures of accountability for student performance, consulted in creation of new block grant to support whole child education;• Represented ASCD in federal appropriations process to ensure funding for educator professional development and well-rounded education; increased engagement of ASCD’s Educator Advocates in this process by 100% through innovative advocacy tools and resources;• Worked with Government Relations team to create and implement annual legislative conference including development of policy resources, despite staffing limitations.

• Represented NASPE on Capitol Hill particularly by initiating a campaign to elevate physical education as a core academic subject to ensure access for physical educators to Title II funds for professional development; this early campaign resulted in the eventual inclusion of physical education in the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act;• Initiated and implemented NASPE’s annual SPEAK Out! Day for members, corporate sponsors, and organizational supporters;• Developed NASPE’s first Public Policy Agenda and coordinated the revision of NASPE’s Shape of the Nation Report (2010).
