Each morning, I milked sixty-six Alpine and Nubians and completed the barn chores, which included feeding the dairy herd, approximately 50 kids, and 5 bucks. I would also ensure the barn is clean, top dress the goat pens and occasionally perform grooming tasks,such as hoof-trimming.

My responsibilities included harvesting and sorting heirloom tomatoes, harvesting and processing different types of greens, including puntarelle, blonde and red radicchio, escarole, three varieties of kale, bok choi, sweet potato greens, mustard greens and many types of lettuces. By using the Real Food Calculator, I, along with a group of other students, analyzed the amount of Real Food used in the main dining hall at the University of Pittsburgh. Real Food is ecologically sound, fair, community based and humane. Our end-of the-semester goal was to have the administration sign on to a commitment of 20% Real Food at the dining hall by 2020. Additionally, we hosted a Real Food Week in March to increase educational awareness and enthusiasm about the movement.

I provided necessary care for, as well as served as a companion to, an elderly woman, which included aiding in activities of daily living.

I conducted online research relating to fracking issues in Pennsylvania and worked to get petitions signed for a fracking moratorium by speaking with people on the streets of Pittsburgh. I aided in the planning of and attended PennEnvironment sponsored events, such as the Global Frackdown Smackdown and a premiere of Gasland 2, with a talk by director Josh Fox. At these events, I spoke with members of the community and environmental professions about hydraulic fracturing education.

I traveled door-to-door talking to members of the Pittsburgh community about various campaigns. I worked on an effort to save the Keystone Fund, which provides communities with money to maintain and build state parks and other green spaces. I also campaigned to decrease subsidizes for corn products like high fructose corn syrup, that are leading to obesity in children. The campaigns were for PennEnvironment and PennPIRG, (Pennsylvania Public Interest Research Group) respectively.

I answered phones, handled invoices, mailed catalogs, and prepared orders for shipment.

I chopped vegetables, prepared salads, maintained garden bar, and answered customers' questions regarding food served on the salad bar.
