City Squared is a consulting practice specializing in the economics of land use planning. From site specific development feasibility to city wide policy inputs, City Squared achieves development and policy objectives through the application of economic principles. The company has worked extensively in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario where they specialize in redevelopment economics, financial testing of planning policy, municipal finance, affordable housing policy and demographics.City Squared Tasks - Undertook research tasks which informed development of land use concepts at the community level. - Used GIS to gather parcel data for a brownfield revitalization project which would inform the viability of redevelopment opportunities. - Leveraged data analytics to tabulate and collate large quantities of information which were represented graphically and easily referenced. - Communicated results of complex analysis in formats that were clear and easily understood by planning and consulting staff.

LEPS describes itself as a unique, non-profit, partnership driven society that provides a bridge between community, business and government. Their mission is “protecting and restoring the environment through education, cooperation and action.” As part of a co-op program through Kwantlen, I created a policy analysing report that was trying to encourage developments within Langley, BC, to incorporate process improvement leading to increased urban tree coverage. I gained the experience of a formal work environment while reporting my progress on the project to Lisa Dreves. I held interviews with stakeholders and experts in the field to assist in my research for this report, with LEPS giving a final copy out to the City of Langley and the Township of Langley.
