Hi! I graduated with a Marketing degree from Virginia Tech in 2007. During 7 great years in the business aviation world as a Marketing Manager at AirFleet Capital, I developed my communication style, computer knowledge, organization and leadership skills. I was able to build many trusting relationships with honesty and attentive focus to meet others where they are and was promoted based on work ethic and results. In 2013, I decided I wanted to change career paths to something where I felt I was giving back more to others. After shadowing in hospitals and taking pre-requisite courses at night, I went back to school full time to receive a BS in Nursing from George Mason University's second degree program. Upon earning my RN license, I joined the Progressive Care Unit at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital in Fairfax, VA. During my 4+ years on the floor, I was able to develop my style of nursing, hone my assessment skills and gain confidence in providing safe, effective care to many types of complex patients. As each patient presented with different issues, I realized the importance of working together with the interdisciplinary team to provide quality care to each patient. I gained insight into caring for patients during periods of extreme stress and worked very hard to connect with patients and their families on a human level - realizing that listening and placing myself in another’s shoes went a long way in making people feel more comfortable, developing trust quickly and maximizing patient experience and health outcomes. I was promoted to Charge Nurse there based on communication style, positive attitude, critical thinking skills and work ethic. I really enjoyed being a nurse and seeing the fruits of my hard work in the form of positive health outcomes for others. There is a gap in my employment beginning March 2020. Per doctor recommendation, I had to leave the bedside at that time when I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and underwent subsequent chemotherapy treatment. Now that I have recovered, I am very interested in returning to a part-time position that would allow interaction with patients and staff in a more remote capacity at this time. I hope that my varying experiences in customer service, time at the bedside, attention to detail, compassionate nature, computer skills and desire to return to nursing with a fresh perspective from the patient side after my own diagnosis make me a uniquely qualified candidate for this type of role.
