I am a communication and social science researcher with teaching and research experience and prior experience as a communications specialist in non-profit, university, and corporate organizations. I am highly organized and detail-oriented and enjoy cross-disciplinary, multidisciplinary, and cross-organizational collaborations. As a qualitative researcher, I often examine issues related to health communication using content and thematic analysis in conjunction with interviews. My recent independent research project investigates maternity and pregnancy experiences of active-duty U.S. servicewomen and particularly focuses on healthcare delivery, equity, and access. I have won national and institutional awards for my scholarship which has been published in journals including BMC Public Health, Qualitative Health Communication, Women's Studies in Communication, and Organization. As an educator, I have received awards for my teaching and mentoring. I am passionate about making classes engaging, interactive, and collaborative learning spaces in all types of environments: face-to-face, hybrid, and online (synchronous and asynchronous). I approach teaching as an opportunity to build community and find ways to draw out all voices and perspectives. I have developed new courses and taken students abroad as part of my classes. I have also shifted some of my courses to open-source textbooks to increase accessibility and decrease costs for students.
