Teaching Assistant - China Branch Campus
I spent my last semester of Graduate School in Dalian, China (Fall 2010). I was a Teaching Assistant for three College of Business courses: Operations Management, International Finance, and Project Management. The average class size was 70 students. Here is a brief overview of how this program works. MSU offers a 4-year General Business Degree to students in China. The first two years of coursework is generally the general education requirements, taught by faculty on-ground in China. The last 2 years of the program is taught by a combination of on-site instruction and distance learning. The first two weeks of the semester the Professors were on-site in China with me. In the first two weeks they covered a lot of course material. For the remainder of the semester (16 weeks) I was the daily administrator of the classes on-site. Once a week the professor would give a lecture from Springfield, Missouri and my students in China would see the Professor on the screen via Adobe Connect web chat. I would walk around with a microphone and the students were given the chance to ask the professor question during class. The other class session each week was my session without the professor, it was called the TA led session. In these sessions I either presented course lectures, launched and in-class production project, worked practice problems or reviewed homework problems. I also held office hours to answer student questions and provide one-on-one guidance. I prepared, graded, and proctored exams in a manner that upheld academic honesty. I kept grade records confidential and up-to-date.
Graduate Assistant
As a graduate assistant for the Dean of the College of Bussiness I worked on special projects for the Dean, Associate Deans, and Budget Officer. I also scheduled appointments for the MBA advisor and answered questions of future and current MBA students about the program and requirements. I completed administrative and clerical duties daily. I spent the summer of 2009 in Dalian, China, at Missouri State University's Branch Campus. Here I worked as a Graduate Assistant to three upper-level College of Business courses in the areas of Management, Marketing and Computer Information Systems. I helped prepare, proctor and grade exams. I graded homework assignments and essays and posted the grades and announcements to the online site called BlackBoard. I held office hours daily where I was open to the students for questions and help. I also created, administered and collected surveys among the students to assist a professor in his research project. After a short summer in China in 2009, I decided I would retrun. In the spring of 2010 I prepared for the classes I would assist on-site in the fall of 2010. My preparations included reviewing the course materials, writing quiz questions, proctoring exams and assisting the EMBA director. I returned to the Dalian campus for the Fall 2010 semester where I was a Teaching Assistnat for Operations Management, International Finance and Project Management.
Student Manager Captain
I began this job as a receptionist and as a fitness center attendant. I answered phone calls, issued equipment and checked student ID's. After one semester I was promoted to a student manager where I took on responsibility to lock and secure the building at night. I was also responsible to foster a safe environment for patrons during MSU athletic events. As the head student manager of Plaster Sports Complex I was in charge of the employee scheduling. I scheduled students around their classes and scheduled other student managers to weekend sporting events.
Housekeeping Supervisor (Intern)
While working at the Hyatt Regency I took on a great deal of responsibility as an intern. After 2 weeks of training, and never working on the Rooms side, I was set loose to supervise the evening housekeeping shift. A big part of my internship was the implementation of the Impact! training. More duties included: attending to guest service concerns, performing and logging room inspections, assigning daily projects to staff, documenting employee misconduct, taking inventory and scheduling.
