About Megan Higgins
I am a Sports Development and Management professional, who has a passion for increasing participation in sport across all generations and demographics. I am currently the Inclusive Cycle Development Officer at Seashell Trust. My role focuses on running and developing our accessible cycling provision for our students, residents and staff on-site, as well as our local community. I really enjoy supporting people and being part of their individual progress in sport and physical activity. I have previously worked in both the Clubs and Community teams at British Cycling, where my roles focussed on supporting our cycling clubs and community groups, as well as offering support and guidance to those who were interested in affiliating with us. One of my main projects was providing appropriate clubs and community groups with funding opportunities to support the development of their organisations, allowing them to reach wider communities and welcome in new participants and members. This has been in partnership with Sport England and we have recently allocated over £100,000 to our clubs and community groups. Examples of how this helped our clubs and community groups included; new bike fleets; safety equipment (helmets, bike maintenance kits, first aid kits); and opportunities to put volunteers and coaches through courses. Other previous experience involves designing and running community sports programmes under Active Sefton, including; Couch To 5k; Be Active; Active Through Football; and Active Buggies. I also led their marketing design, promotion and ran their social media channels. Whilst working in this role, I was also a member on Triathlon England’s Youth Forum. This involved assisting the organisation on; how to engage effectively with young people; increase interest and participation; and plan and deliver youth led events on behalf of the British Triathlon Federation. Prior to working at Active Sefton, I have experience in; University sport; sports events; volunteer management; and running a small business throughout lockdown.
Listed skills include Customer Service, Sports Coaching, Event Management, Team Leadership, and 15 others.

I also played a part in our Let's Ride Through Winter campaign, which was a friendly distance based competition to encourage as many people as possible to cycle during the winter months, with multiple prizes up for grabs throughout. We implemented different ways of gaining mileage in order to make it accessible to everyone. During this role, I also led on the community groups marketing, including our Community Groups Newsletter. This went out monthly to keep our groups up to date with important information, as well as key dates and opportunities for them to get involved in British Cycling initiatives and events.
