Environmental Planner
Freelance Technical Writer
I complete writing and editing services for clients on an as needed basis. Subjects range from technical to academic. I’ve provided my services to students, novelists, and bloggers.
Environmental Planner
I have 6 years experience doing NEPA/CEQA/SEPA work as a contractor for the federal government (mostly FEMA), especially for hazard mitigation grant projects. I specialize and care most about environmental justice and endangered species protection. I’ve written and reviewed technical documents, including Environmental Assessments, Environmental Impact Reports/Statements, Biological Assessments, Findings of No Significant Impact (FONSIs), No Effect Memos, ESA Review Forms, and other documentation. In addition, my duties include written communication directly with clients, proofreading documents for others, delegating tasks among colleagues, and coordinating project tasks. I also participate in DEI initiatives and am passionate about promoting accessibility and equity in transportation, urban, and environmental planning.
Project Analyst
Independent Engineer offering environmental and permitting technical due diligence to large-scale wind and solar farms in North America during all stages of a project's life (pre-construction due diligence to operational maintenance to decommissioning). Specifically, I work with a multidisciplinary team assisting with federal, state, and local permitting processes, including building and air quality permits and analyzing environmental impact assessments and wildlife and vegetation studies for risk to financial institutions. I am responsible for technical report writing, standardization of processes and language, balanced and fair workloads for each of the 13 members of the EPS IE team, and ensuring that projects do not go over-budget.
Master'S Of Science In Geology
Thesis: understanding and documenting thermal history of the Dulan ultra high-pressure (UHP) metamorphic belt in North Qaidam, western China. I used Zirconium-in-Rutile (Zr-in-Rt) thermometry to increase the spatial resolution of peak temperatures and pressures. In particular, my goal was to understand the relationship between UHP eclogites in the east and high pressure granulites that outcrop in the western end of the Dulan UHP belt. I used U-Pb geochronology and rare earth element analyses of zircon with a Sensitive High Resolution Ion Microprobe-Reverse Geometry to document the timing of peak temperatures.
Geologist I
Sample preparation for CT scanning, including cutting oil sands, carbonates, and sandstones down to the size required for each stage of scanning. Data analysis using computer programs such as MatLab. Preparing professional reports for and communicating with clients. Problem solving- in a new field like 3D CT scanning of rocks, there weren't set protocols for achieving the best results. Each new project presented challenges; these problems were solved daily.
Hydrocarbon Well Analyst
I monitor lithology, natural gas, and pressure of the drilling mud versus formation to make sure we're drilling where we want to be and can keep the well under control to prevent blowouts. I relay information between the company man on-site and the geologist(s) in the office.
Student Manager: Dinner Shift
Organized, scheduled, and supervised 20-25 diverse student workers to serve approximately 800 students dinner.
