In my role things are different everyday, my time is split between dealing with businesses and students. The majority of my time is spent working with current BBA students who are either enrolled or interested in enrolling into the Co-op program. When I am not working with Co-op students I am usually working with students from the Bachelor of Hospitality & Tourism Management Degree and planning out their two paid Internships. It was a major transition moving fro hotels into Higher Education but at the time it was the right move for my family and I as I had a young child. I was the training officer for the Estates and Buildings team working with all departments that fell under this umbrella to ensure training was up to date and all legal requirements were met. This was outside of my comfort zone but I quickly settled in and enjoyed learning about a new area and helping people develop in order to reach their next career goals.

Recording and tracking training for the four North East Marriott properties. Facilitating orientation training and any other hotel specific training required by the individual properties.

Covering the night auditor role as well as day time receptionist when necessary. Short term secondment while recruiting for full time team member.

As a Senior Event Manager for this prestigious 4 star property consisting of 158 bedrooms, 11 meeting rooms, Leisure Club (including swimming pool) and a full 18 hole, championship standard golf course.I am tasked with the following responsibilities:• Event promotions, • Compiling and presenting month end reports, • Co-ordinating special events, weddings and meetings, • Dealing with the day to day running of the office and staff management, • Duty manager shifts,• Staff reviews and target setting• Compiling and conducting 12 and 6 month performance reviews with my sales and co-ordination team.• Chairing and participating in weekly sales strategy meetings, • Actively participating in Operations meeting • Working closely with the Conference and Banqueting team leader and regional sales office to ensure a seamless transition from enquiry, planning and to ensure a smooth event taking place.• Project Management for London 2012 booking leading up to and during stay• Monthly and Yearly forecasting

• Two months at the Gosforth Park on property office as an event manager dealing with special events and meetings,• Five months in the Sunderland Marriott on property sales office dealing with special events and meetings as well as assisting the Sales Manager and Senior Event Manager with promotions and month end reports,• One month at the Durham Marriott Royal County in the events office dealing with special events and meetings,• Nine months at the Newcastle Marriott MetroCentre covering maternity leave as Senior Event Manager, dealing with the day to day running of the office, month end reporting, duty manager shifts, sales strategy meetings, staff reviews and overseeing events, meetings and weddings taking place in the hotel. • Six months were also spent in the North Regional Sales Office as a Sales executive handling initial enquiries for the four north east hotels via telephone, email and fax.
