As a pre-press designer I edit, design, or recreate customer artwork files to create press ready files for a variety of printing methods. Other duties I preform can include edits and design to formatting and layout, color correction, photo correction, bookletizing, imposition, variable data entry, logo recreation and even account management and processing of customer payments.I communicate directly with clients to process and estimate orders for press, and to determine the most effective method of printing for the customer’s project and for their budget. This can include sourcing paper, production methods, or other materials from outside vendors and working with our production team to ensure a smooth transition to production and a quality final product.As an account manager, I also work directly with a well known fortune 500 brand to produce, edit, and distribute, in-store signage and collateral for their 120 Michigan store locations. This includes understanding and determining use case, pre-press estimation, sourcing of materials, design or required editing of customer supplied files, supplying proofs and gaining approval. From there, I move to production preparation; set-up, imposition, print production, bindery and assembly, and finally the logistics and distribution of weekly orders. These orders can be produced on a four color offset, digital press or large format press and can range in size from small single store orders to large, multi-piece branded roll outs of a variety of different materials, kitted together for store distribution.

I approved, edited, and designed artwork and compiled files for screen printing. The art is then burned onto screens and printed for customers with traditional and automatic screen printing methods, as well as direct to garment, and screen print transfer methods. In addition, I prepared, cut and weeded custom vinyl for client orders. I made recommendations on how art should be printed on garments to ensure the best quality print, prepared and separated art files for burning, and sent notifications and requests to clients and store administrators across 20 stores in 15 states.

In 2017, over 42,000 boys and girls participated on 3,400 PGA Jr. League teams across the country. As second shift PGA Jr. League Lead, I manage a team of 15 or more art assistants and press operators doing a variety of tasks involved with the production and shipment of custom garments and items for the PGA Jr. League. I facilitate the cutting and weeding of premium vinyl, troubleshoot issues with the various machines used in production, quality check garments and manage the inventory of garments and other add on items, ship, notify, and track the production and shipment of orders.

I contacted a variety of paper vendors and merchants to acquire samples and have special guests come and speak to us students about paper and printing in relation to design. I also consulted my classmates on paper choices and brands.
