I specialize in improving user experience and building UI design systems with a strong background in front-end web design and responsive frameworks. I currently lead and manage a team of web designers for Grand Canyon Education. To me, design is all about digging in deep to understand and empathize with users while solving complex business problems. Using research and data to drive and support design decisions allows one to remove personal bias and provide the best solution for the target market and user base. I have worked primarily on B2C projects, although I have experience with B2B projects as well.Being a designer takes a person that is able to work off of their intuitions but also accept when their intuitions have failed them. As a designer you will fail many more times than you will succeed, but it is what you do with those failures that allows you to grow and step up to the next level. It is constantly re-visiting your work, putting your work through various stages or testing, and seeing what minor adjustments you can make to make it more of a success. As a design leader, I encourage those on my team to utilize a design thinking process. I am a firm believer that great designs only start with great questions, and one of the hardest things you will learn as a designer is to step back and evaluate before just diving in and doing. I challenge team members and stakeholders to put users first and create simple, intuitive experiences that speak to the user priorities and expectations. After all, without users/customers - a company would not exist.
