Assistant Dean Of Students, New Student Programs And Student Support
Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of University orientation programs for 3,750 new students and their families, including curricular and co-curricular programming for seven statutory and endowed colleges. Recruited, selected, trained and supervised student volunteers who worked for ten day period during new student orientation, 650 volunteers in August and 70 in January. Coordinated 700 faculty, staff, and students volunteers assisting with move-in day. Provided leadership and direction for faculty, staff, and students in the planning and delivery of University first year programs. Worked with the residential life staff to provide timely and appropriate programming new students. The fall 2001 class was the first group of students to take part in the North Campus residential initiative environment for 3, 200 first year students. Transfer and upper class students were relocated to West Campus. This change created the need for new programming and student development strategies for both residential communities. Primary coordinator for the initial implementation of an initiative requiring all new students to read and discuss a book provided by the University over the summer. The book was discussed in a panel presentation for 4,000 people and in 235 small groups facilitated by a volunteer faculty member and upper class student. Managed department budget of over $150,000. Served as a member of the on-call University Crisis Management Team.
