Teaching primarily AP and Grade 12 Biology courses and AP Biology Extended classes for qualified students to refine their understanding of current topics in Bio while learning & developing technical skills.

CLASSROOMTaught academically able students in grades 7-12 (OAC) in biology/science, continuing to learn and use a wide variety of teaching strategies creatively to develop higher order thinking, creativity and metacognitive skills of students. Actively incorporated technology into lessons. Wrote and implemented new laboratory experiments for classes. Supervised student independent research before, during and after school in the biology laboratory. In addition to timetabling science teachers, ensuring departmental equipment and supplies needs were met, maintaining departmental budget, ensuring safety and WHMIS standards were being met, a common prep time for course teachers was introduced into the timetable (maintained). Mentorship was facilitated for the 4 teachers with 0-2 years of experience (50% of department) as needed. Led a gap analysis of the Intermediate and Biology program prior to designing an early implementation protocol for the revised science curriculum (2008) which also provided for additional enrichment needs. Initiated a (school wide) partnership with Dr. Jim Slotta (OISE/UT) to study the role of technology in developing deep learning.

In addition to teaching science/biology classes, scheduling 15 teachers and myselfinto the science timetable, inventory, ordering and maintaining a departmental budget,• Led department members to collaboratively develop the grade 9 destreamed curriculum by removing non-purposeful content and introducing more hands-on, inquiry-based learning in cooperative small group settings. Assessment Portfolios were introduced to give richer feedback on student learning and understanding and to develop the students’ metacognitive abilities. A Science Olympics was introduced.• Introduced: SCA3G, SNC2B, SNC2E, SNC3B, SBI3E, SSO4M courses• Participated in school board development and implementation of the transition years’ program as the school and school family representative.• Built connections with grade 7 and 8 feeder schools’ teachers and students by: --developing and implementing a program of visits for grade 8 students to shadow Grade 9 “hosts” for a day,  --coordinating and facilitating monthly meetings among grade 7, 8 and 9 teachers to collaboratively review and streamline transitions years’ science, math and english) curriculum  --initiated equipment lending program to feeder schools providing support (if requested) with teacher workshops and/or loaning senior students with the equipment

Taught grade 9 to OAC students (destreamed, basic, general, advanced and gifted) in general science, biology and chemistry. Developed enrichment program for academically gifted students. Provided opportunities for inclusion of developmentally challenged students (with support). Actively implemented a variety of teaching-learning strategies with my students (and department) including cooperative learning, concept mapping, concept attainment and formation, reflection and goal-setting, portfolio assessment, children’s literature and other activities to develop higher order thinking skills.Extracurricular: -coach: girls’ Basketball, girls’ Volleyball, boys’ Basketball -OFSSA ‘91 (Girls’ Basketball), Organizing Committee -initiated annual Red Cross Blood Donor Clinics -staff supervisor for Hiking/Outdoors club.
