About Megan Russell
I graduated with an Honours degree in Visual Communication and Design at Stellenbosch University. I’ve always been passionate about design and problem-solving. After I completed my studies, I worked at a digital marketing and development agency for a few months whereafter I spent the following months freelancing as a Graphic Designer for various clients. In doing so, I was exposed to various UI/UX projects that sparked my interest in software development. Having learnt HTML/CSS at university, I started my coding journey by learning React and building several websites. I subsequently discovered that I thoroughly enjoy the process of designing projects and iterating over solutions, which led me to learn Node, Express and PostgreSQL via online learning platforms.I wanted to get industry experience, which was difficult to do as a junior developer during lockdown, so I co-founded a web development and design agency with two other people. This included designing a company website using Figma, and developing it using Gatsby.js. We were then fortunate enough to work with 3 different clients which gave me the exposure I was craving.
