Since 2011, I have held jobs and internships in business-to-business media. My internship experiences taught me some of the basic skills I needed to pursue a career in B2B media. My internships at both Harbor Communications and Babcox Media taught me how to interview CEOs, CFOs and COOs for articles without fear while I was still a student. I also had a few opportunities to write cover stories at my internships, which taught me early on in my career how to compile in-depth articles for trade publications. When I graduated from college, I worked for a few months at The Vindicator newspaper in Youngstown, Ohio. I transitioned back to B2B media in late 2014 when I received an Associate Editor position at North Coast Media in Cleveland. For that position, I juggled my time each day on three publications – LP Gas magazine, Pit & Quarry magazine and PP&E magazine. It was challenging to learn the jargon in three different industries, but I was quick to learn the jargon. In addition to writing features and posting news to websites for each of those publications, I was asked to lead a few special projects at North Coast Media.Since 2017, I have held several positions at GIE Media in Northeast Ohio, working for both Lawn & Landscape magazine as well as for the Recycling Today Media Group. I spent about four years as a managing editor for the Recycling Today Media Group, helping to coordinate production of the magazine each month. In 2022, I became a mom, which is a totally different job not typically included on resumes! With this new role in my life, I decided to scale back to part-time work for the Recycling Today Media Group as an associate editor, working mostly from home. While I love my career and company, I did not want to regret missing major milestones in my daughter’s first year of life. I can pick up projects at any stage of life, but I only get one shot at being my daughter’s mom. In addition to my work experiences, I have volunteered for ASBPE, a national association for business-to-business editors, writers, designers and freelancers. I currently serve on the board of directors. I enjoy collaborating with colleagues from across the industry for the association, and it has certainly helped me learn new ideas to apply to my day-to-day work.
