I work as senior programme manager at CESS. I am involved in developing and implementing capacity-building projects on democratic governance in the security sector for government officials and civil society representatives in former Soviet Union Republics, South East Europe and Turkey.During the past few years I've edited a book on needs and options for security sector reform (SSR) in Central Asia and composed articles on the foreign policy of the Netherlands towards Central Asia and an historical analysis of Croatia's path to NATO membership. I also produced modules on parliamentary oversight of the defence sector and SSR in the framework of EU enlargement and taught these modules at various training courses.In February 2013, I've co-edited a book on the principles and challenges of good governance in the security sector. This book marks the end of a capacity-building project CESS conducted in Turkey. From 2014 onwards I will work on the development of new training programmes for staffers of parliamentary committees to better enable them to assist MPs in exercising effective and accountable oversight. In 2014-15 CESS will conduct two projects for parliamentary committee staffers in Georgia and Macedonia.In June 2013, I've participated in the "US-European Security Issues" programme, which is part of the US State Department's International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). During the course of three weeks I've participated in many meetings in Washington, D.C. (Pentagon, State, Brookings, Stimson Center, Congressional Research Service, etc); Montgomery, Alabama (Fusion Center, Maxwell Airforce Base, Alabama State University, Southern Poverty Law Center); Colorado Springs (Peterson Airforce Base, NORAD, NORTHCOM, FBI Field Office, Senator Udall's Office); San Diego (San Diego Harbor Police, CATCH Crime High Tech Response Team, San Ysidro Border Tour, Immigration and Customs Enforcement); and, New York City (US Mission to the UN and New York University).
