Contemporary women's clothing boutique. Founded on the idea that age does not define dress. The boutique is merchandised with items that work into an already established wardrobe. Bohemian and chic. Centered in a small suburban town in the Midwest I believe my customers live a casual lifestyle even if they work full time. I offer everything from a beautiful silk top to go with a great fitting pair of jeans, to fab sandals and earrings to dress an outfit up.I also have my own line of cashmere sweaters that I design, produce and import specifically for my store. Retailling at $98 they are competitive with major department stores and specialty stores.

I was a Senior Buyer at Motherswork responsible for Mimi Maternity Casual Clothing-including sweaters, denim, knit tops, and wovens. 90% of the merchandise was product development and as Senior Buyer I was the coordinator of the design, production, and merchandising teams. I worked with the design team to determine trends, conceptualize product, source fabrication and production, and manage margins. Travelled extensively in Asia and Europe.

After a term as a Planner, and a couple years as a Buyer in the Ready to Wear division I joined a team of Buyers focusing on Private Label-which was a major push to differentiate Bloomingdale's from other retailers. I had been focused on Special Sizes in my buying career so had a special eye for determining consumer need. I specialized in knitwear and travelled to yarn fairs and shopped for trends in Europe. I worked with a team of Buyers, Planners, and Agents to determine the proper package for developemnt and then sourced it to the appropriate manufacturers globally based on negotiated pricing. I maintained communication to insure quality and timely delivery. I managed Assistants and allocated responsibility to deliver beautiful timely merchandise.

As a Buyer at Bloomingdale's I planned, negotiated, and assorted product for the Special Size Women's selling floor in 23 stores. That's the short story. As any Buyer will tell, the job entails so much more than a short sentence can explain. Negotiation-from introduction to exit of vendors. Planning-from how much of what to buy, to when to mark down and how to meet financial sales goals. Assortment-which store deserves what product, how to translate trends appropriately for a specialized customer and how to be on top of emerging trend waves.
