Meka Egwuekwe Email and Phone Number
As a 10 year-old kid, my goal was seemingly simple, yet deeply personal: I wanted to program this machine to make my unique name, "Meka Egwuekwe," move gracefully across the screen. With every line of code, a sense of wonder and accomplishment grew within me. This first project was not just about displaying a name—it symbolized the discovery of a passion that would propel me to Andover, Morehouse, and Duke, and ultimately guide my life's work. With over 25 years of experience in the software development industry, I am a tech non-profit leader with a passion for diversity and inclusion. As the Co-Founder and Executive Director of CodeCrew, I empower individuals from underrepresented communities to become AI and Computer Science innovators and leaders. Our vision is to foster a more equitable and inclusive tech sector that reflects the diversity of our society and benefits from the perspectives and talents of all people. As CodeCrew's Executive Director, I witness the transformative impact of tech education on underrepresented youth. My mission is to nurture and equip these bright minds with the tools, skills, and confidence to venture into the dynamic realm of computing as producers and influencers. In 8 years, we've directly impacted 12,000+ unique students, advocating for CS education legislation impacting 1 million students, and achieving a 93% engagement rate among Black and Latino youth, with 89% pursuing computer science.Due to detailed, hands-on instruction from my team and CodeCrew educators, CodeCrew students have been accepted into the TED-Ed Student Talks and Raising Good Gamers program. In addition, CodeCrew Hackathon teams have repeatedly won first place in the Congressional App Challenge for our US congressional district. CodeCrew graduates secure $55,600 salaries, a stark contrast to their $12,150 average prior. My guiding principle is global thinking with local impact, urging all to contribute positively to our communities and the world. I speak around the globe on topics including AI, computer science, diversity, and solving social issues through opportunities and education.
