I am currently an Associate Professor in Emergency Medical Services at the College of Central Florida (CF) in Ocala, Florida. I have been employed at CF since 1995 and have worked in may different roles as an instructor. I initially started my career in EMS in 1991 as an EMT with Munroe Regional Medical Center (MRMC) in Ocala, Florida. It was one of the last hospital based ambulance services in Florida. After paramedic school, I transitioned into a Lead Paramedic position with MRMC. In the 10 years I was with MRMC I worked as a Field Training Officer, Critical Care Paramedic, Flight Paramedic, and as a Law Enforcement Observer with the Marion County Sheriff Office. An opportunity in October of 2000 became available for a Flight Paramedic position with ShandsCair, the aeromedical program for UF Health. I was fortunate enough to be offered and accepted the position. For 17 years I worked for UF Health transporting critically ill and injured patients by helicopter, airplane and critical care ambulance all across the nation. Around the same time in late 2000 I was asked to review a civil law suit by Rieback Medical Legal Consultants. This was a negligence case against a flight paramedic. Since then I have testified in numerous cases across the nation for and against EMS providers.
