So Mel what got you into events? Covid made us contemplating many things, for me it highlighted my passion and love for the Events Industry during a time many lost hope due to the unforeseen challenges the industry faced. Whilst working as a full time as a nursing assistant for almost 8 years in the hospital, I remained hopeful the events industry would strive once again and I wanted to become a part of that movement. I knew my job with the NHS was not my future only my foundation and I’m incredible grateful for the transferable skills and work ethic at a young age it provided. I enrolled onto a full time events management degree at UWTSD and most recently graduated with a 1st BA (Hons), whilst balancing alongside my nursing assistant role! My industrious attitude and passion has been inspired by the many individuals within the industry who I have met along the way whilst met through undertaking a number of key responsibilities and volunteer experiences which truly opened my eyes to how exciting, unpredictable and ever changing the events industry is! In March, 2023 I organised and hosted a conference and careers fair representing ITT Future You, ABTA and the Institute of Hospitality Cymru at Swansea Arena to 700 student delegates and industry representatives. This event has been awarded for demonstrating innovation, creativity and providing a platform for the future generations at the University to carry this now annual event legacy! I gained experience in marketing with Ffos Las Racecourse and 4TheRegion Swansea. I have also worked with Perthyn Spirits working on promotional tours with Mike Phillips and James Hook which demonstrate my creativity skills through the use of social media content and positive public relation engagement. I have also undertaken roles of guest service at In It together Festival, Events Room, Swansea Wine Fair and Cardiff International Wine Fair! Oh, and I have appeared on ITVS Take Me Out!
