Mel’s philosophy for horsemanship is a very holistic one, striving to understand all four aspects of the horse and human – the mind, emotions, body and spirit. In many horsemanship training programs the deepest part of the horse, their spirit, soul or individual personality is overlooked as is the vast range of emotions that they can feel. Horses feel all the same emotions that we do, fear, anger, resentment, happiness, saddness, depression, joy, excitement and the list goes on. Horses have their own soul purpose, life paths and learnings and teachings to experience in this life time just as we humans do. Connecting with horses is about connecting to the horse at the deepest energetic, mental and emotional levels and working with the individual beings that they are. It is about connecting with your heart, mind and physical body. It is about intuitive and energetic connection as well as physical connection. Understanding horses physical bodies and the biomechanics of how their bodies work is the next essential ingredient if we are going to ride horses. It is so important for horses to be ridden in the right posture and biomehcanical balance if they are to enjoy the experience, stay sound, healthy and reach their athletic potential and peak performance. Mel became fascinated with observing and improving horse’s posture and self carriage, seeing that performance for horses was relatively effortless when horses where in correct posture, balance and true self-carriage so it became essential to find out how to help horses and riders develop this. The other aspect to all of this is how horses can be instrumental in helping personal development, leadership and spiritual growth and exploration. Connecting with Horses and Riding with Synchronicity is a very well rounded and holistic approach to horsemanship.
