I started employment at Ashley Hunter to be the lead IQA, implement all IQA policies, procedures and documentation and to lead a team of assessors. Duties also included carrying out staff observations & standardisation meetings, preparing for external quality visits and meeting with staff from the awarding bodies. I have now become the Traineeship Manager where I have overall responsibility for all aspects of the provision, this includes; recruitment, delivery and assessment of Functional Skills and Employability, employer engagement, programme development and teaching and learning resources. I also deliver teacher training and assessor qualifications to new members of staff. In addition, I maintain assessment and tracking documentation and complete all relevant documentation accurately and compliant for our funding contractors.

I delivered & assessed OCR Life & Living Skills and Functional Skills to pre-16 learners who do not attend school. I was responsible for lesson planning, preparing learning materials and co-ordinating 3 volunteer staff. Other duties included liaising with schools and key workers, completing administrative tasks and communication with colleagues and managers.

During this period I worked as a freelance tutor, assessor and internal verifier. I also worked as a sessional tutor at HMP Thorn Cross, which is a young offender’s prison: here I delivered sessions in employability and functional skills.I also worked voluntarily at Greystones, which is sheltered accommodation for men with alcohol and mental health issues, delivering literacy and personal and social development.

As a member of the senior management team I worked closely with the Principal and Vice Principal of the college. I was responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the quality of provision within the college, monitoring staff and ensuring staff development. I was involved in developing policies, procedures and documents for quality assurance and internal verification purposes. I delivered training in PTLLS and the Assessors Award to international students and also teaching staff. Other duties included carrying out staff observations, internal verification, arranging and preparing for external visitors and arranging meetings with management and staff.

During my employment at the College my roles and responsibilities continued to change. My duties included teaching literacy, numeracy, ICT and beauty therapy to all ages ranging from 14 to 60 plus. I have taught whole classes and also on a one to one and in class support basis, to people with varying abilities including those with special educational needs.My latest role was teaching on level 1 & 2 courses in beauty therapy and also level 2 nail services. My duties include planning and preparing for teaching and learning, setting targets and monitoring progress, interviewing potential students and taking part in parents/open evenings. I have also worked as co-ordinator on both level 1 and level 2 programmes and taken part in the internal verification process. In addition I have acted as partnership tutor with the Skills for Work team and co-ordinated the Key/Basic Skills for the department to ensure the content was relevant to beauty therapy.
