Emergency Medical Dispatcher
Bristol, England, United Kingdom
I am currently employed as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher who takes 999 calls from both the general public, who are often in distress, and other professionals such as Police and Healthcare Professionals. I efficiently triage the patient's condition, provide lifesaving instructions and forward the details to a Dispatcher to dispatch the nearest resource. I have certification with Honours from the International Academies of Emergency Medical Dispatch and am required to ensure continuous compliance to Advanced Medical Priority Dispatch System Policies and Procedures within the Accredited Standard. I also ensure I am up to date and compliant with all Trust Standard Operational Procedures, policies and guidelines. Communication as a member of a team is of real importance in this role. I assimilate information rapidly about the patient's condition and any health and safety issues to responding crews to allow them to make informed decisions about the equipment they may need or assistance that might be required to keep them safe. Due to my extensive experience and service length I also regularly act up to the roles of EMD Team Leader, Lead EMD and Mentoring new staff. These roles involve communication with staff on all management levels to review progress or discuss targets etc. Last year I was also highly involved in a project which reviewed staff rotas in our Clinical Hubs in both Bristol and Exeter to make the changes required to meet current high demands. I attended meetings with senior managers and the staff unions, set up one-to-ones with staff and provided regular feedback to both side about how the project was going. This role requires me to remain calm under pressure, actively listen and record details accurately and quickly, I need good telephone manner and computer skills, I am also required to safeguard vulnerable people and understand the need for incident reporting.
