Melanie is a blogger, a community organizer, a competitive marathon runner...and the mother of 7 children. After completing several years of coursework towards a degree in Family Science, Melanie paused her formal education to take an unpaid, thirty-year, field-internship when she became a mother in 1998. An avid runner, Melanie had the goal to qualify for the Boston Marathon between the births of each of her 7 children. Melanie realized this goal in 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, and 2016. In 2012, Melanie accomplished her lifelong goal and ran in the Boston Marathon. That same year, upon discovering that her children's rural school district was in dire financial straits, Melanie co-founded a half-marathon, "Race 2 the Summit," in order to raise the funds necessary to meet the school's financial needs. Today, Melanie continues to reside in her beloved Idaho with her husband and children--where she remains active in education, competitive running, and overseeing the demanding day-to-day operations of "Flake, Inc."
