I worked in the SCU at MMC as a CNA, so I have assisted in changing burn dressings, as well as all manner of wounds seen in SCU (traumatic amputations, TBI, Open Abdomens, fasciotomies, and the like. I have been trained for electronic fetal monitoring. At MMC, I was floated to the pre-natal center, caring for high risk pregnancies, such as accretas, placenta previa, pre-eclampsia, and preterm labor. I am highly competent in all aspects of newborn and postpartum care. I was certified and held the title of RNC-MNN. When working as Nursery Nurse, my skills included blood draws, dropping NG tubes, and starting IV's on newborns. Due to my experience in the newborn nursery, I was cross trained to work on CCN, which is the NICU step down unit. I performed all the tasks mentioned above. My visiting nurse experience has provided me with excellent phlebotomy and IV starting skills. I believe with patience and a butterfly needle, you can get blood from anyone. I am so proficient at this, with an extra hand to help put the tourniquet on, I can obtain labs on myself. I have the picture to prove it. Others skills include complicated dressing changes, including wounds with vacuum dressings, dressings that required a strict sterile field, such as changing PICC dressing.
