They say curiosity killed the cat, but curiosity and my ability to build relationships led to a career in the field of information technology. Curiosity led me to study, take classes, and to get hands-on experience to learn technology when most universities and businesses were still using mainframe systems. Curiosity also led me to carrying home a Compaq microcomputer that could double as a large piece of luggage after work so that I could teach myself how this device could make me more productive. When my curiosity connected me to the microcomputer tech at Lamar University, my ability to build relationships kicked in and my technology career began to bloom. I've worked my way up from a university departmental secretary role to leading a team of information technology professionals for one of the most prestigious law firm in the world. People are my passion, and providing my team with the resources necessary to successfully complete projects is my number one priority. Successful projects ensure that my attorneys can successfully provide our clients with excellent service. I am an Information Technology professional with over 25 years of progressively increasing experience focusing on the management of infrastructure projects, systems implementation, upgrades and migrations of systems including messaging, server virtualization, telecommunications, data center management and business continuity/disaster recovery. I work closely with our information security team to ensure systems are secure and that our user community is informed on proper security practices.I also have a passion for working with women leaders and am passionate about the ILTA Women Who Lead initiatives. As a member of the WWL Advisory Committee, I have been able to collaborate with women leaders to offer educational content through webinars, conference sessions and blog articles to ILTA members. In June 2021, I was excited to take on the role of WWL Co-Chair, which seems like the next logical step for me to continue to build relationships with women leaders. It also provides me the platform to mentor young women interested in technology. Women in leadership positions must invest in the next generation. To achieve the inclusivity that we as women desire, we must also increase our efforts in recruiting young girls into this industry. "If they can see it, they can imagine being it."
