ArtistMel Reese Studio 2009 - PresentBrooklyn, New York, Ushttps://www.melreese.com/@melaniereesehttps://artinres.com/artists/mel-reeseI am an observational artist inspired by formalism. Lines, shapes, colors, and textures are as central to my work as is the process of creating them. A complex layering of these abstract elements allows my work to be representational. My most recent series of paintings is inspired by nature. I methodically build up sheer layers of monochromatic forms. Each new layer is informed by all the previous layers. This process gives the painting a sculptural element as well as a sense of depth. Observations are simplified––distilling the essence of these natural forms reflects nature’s tendency to remove the extraneous. -

Community Development DirectorArt In Res (Yc W20) Apr 2020 - Jan 2022New York, UsSince joining in April 2020 I have worked with the Art in Res team and artists to develop several wonderful programs that intend to help foster a thoughtful, supportive group of artists as well as introduce, guide, and supply Art in Res collectors with accessing insightful information about our growing artist and artwork collection. With these goals in mind, over the past several months I have been able to develop and fully integrate the following programs:Virtual Exhibitions - CurationsInside the Studio - Written Studio Visits #CollectorEducation Series ArticlesThese projects intend to foster several aspects of community building all at once. The Virtual Exhibitions are a vehicle for introducing the concept of art curation to collectors; introducing collectors to the idea of thinking about art as a key part of their home, as well as helping them visualize their home as a cohesive collection and space for displaying art. Beyond the collector educational benefits, this also allows for the chosen artists to continue to grow their exhibit experience during this persistent global shutdown. The Studio Visits have been a wonderful source of thoughtfully written descriptions of our artists studio practices and routines. These visits allow collectors to find even more information about an artist, learn more about their process and practice which, in turn, allows the collector to feel more confident in their purchases. Beyond the collector benefits, this also helps artists development their writing skills around a more in-depth and thoughtful discussion of their work. The #CollectorEducation Series Articles is intended to help foster the education of our newbie collector-base. It is our belief here at Art in Res that the more informed an art collector is, the more confident they can be in their investments in an artist. This includes providing them with basic information about what it means to collect art as well as what it means to make art. -
