Melanie served as an active member of the Board of Directors for SHIELD from August 2019 until November 2021. Melanie’s heart has grown large for the Team in WV, and she accepted a Position as Program Development Consultant starting November 8th, 2021 under the Sisters of St. Joseph Health and Wellness Foundation Grant SHIELD received. Melanie will be working to administer training and event coordination, database management, and to facilitate content development with the Speaker’s Bureau and Board of Directors. Melanie will manage outreach and logistics for SHIELD training requests along with a system to log, track and archive outreach provided. Melanie will be working to develop a process for recruiting high school ambassadors for SHIELD and empowering youth under SHIELD’s Youth Mobilization Initiative. Family AdvocateChildren'S Cove: The Cape And Islands Child Advocacy Center Oct 2015 - May 2021*Responsible for providing advocacy services to child victims and their families when sexual abuse and/or serious physical abuse has been alleged. Involved in coordinating support services that have been recommended by the Multidisciplinary Team members, identifying any barriers that may prevent the family from receiving services, and advocating for immediate service implementation. Present when children and families are at the Center to support and answer questions about the investigative process, court process, and treatment options. Monitor and maintain the case logistics and track Maintain strict standards of confidentiality. -Maintain contact with the victim and family throughout the investigation and prosecution when requested. Work collaboratively with Victim Witness Advocates. -Assists with community education, outreach and professional trainings on child abuse issues. -Provides short term case management for all child victims and their families. -Researches, maintains and makes all necessary referrals for follow up services to appropriate agencies. -Actively participates in triage, case review meetings and team meetings. -Be available as a witness/support in court as required. -Reports any information of abuse/neglect as a mandated reporter to the appropriate parties. -Maintains knowledge of applicable laws, theories and practices in the area of child physical and sexual abuse including the child advocacy center model and best practices, child exploitation and child trafficking, roles of the multidisciplinary team and forensic interviewing. -Participate in all Children’s Cove fundraising events. -Performs other similar or related duties as required or as situations dictates. -
