Over the past year I wanted to start a family and take a step back from the operating room for a while. I love being in the operating room but felt like a break would be good for my family and I and allow me to better focus on my new responsibilities as a parent. Over the past year I've gained a lot of experience when it comes to working for a large corporation and gaining a lot of experience as a workplace ambassador (front desk/receptionist kind of role). In this role I do many things like keeping office supplies stocked, answering phones, helping visitors, shipping and receiving packages, and coordinating meetings and conference room schedules across our entire building. I also helped set up and manage an online FAQ system for our employees.At this point I would be happy to continue in roles similar to this or even get back into the surgery field as a CST. From the moment I first experienced the operating room, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. I was amazed by every member of the team that takes on the task of caring for the surgical patient. Entering an OR is a frightening experience. The patient must give up complete control and leave their self in our hands. We have the privilege and responsibility to give them the highest quality of care. I've heard it so many times from instructors, preceptors and mentors: Treat every patient like they were your loved one. That is my core belief.
