Neami is Australia’s largest specialist mental health NFP. It has an annual budget of around $130m, over 1000 staff and operates in six states and territories. As a trusted adviser to the CEO and Chair of the Board, I led the day-to-day legal and governance affairs of the Neami Group, provided strategic advisory and compliance management of two boards and led the assurance (risk, internal audit and insurance) functions. As a member of the senior executive team I was also responsible for providing leadership and stewardship across the organization. Major Accomplishments• The provision of strategic, governance and legal advice on board and organisational matters • Legal advice (both with a strategic and compliance focus) on issues including contract terms, litigation. intellectual property, employment, privacy, consent, executive contracts and subpoenas• Drove high quality Company Secretary services, including- delivering new board governance systems, policies and procedures- developing CEO recruitment and Board appraisal approaches- reform of company constitutions- implementing Enterprise Risk Management (risk identification, appetite and tolerances)- revamping Director remuneration and Board renewal systems and thinking• Established and managing a contract management system • Leading and advising on key areas of Neami’s Covid management response (legal advice, vaccinations, workforce relations)• Management of the internal audit, risk assurance and insurance functions• Successfully providing collaborative executive leadership through a period of internal organisational restructure and rapid sector change

Moreland Affordable Housing Ltd (MAH) is a not-for-profit company established to address the need for affordable and secure housing for disadvantaged residents of Moreland. MAH was established by Moreland Council. I was a founding member of MAH and was responsible for establishing the governance processes and leading constitution reform and lobbying Council on land transfer matters.

The VRGF is a Victorian statutory authority (annual budget of around $40m) with the objectives to reduce the prevalence of problem gambling and foster responsible gambling within Victorian communities. Reporting to the CEO I performed several key leadership and advisory services to the VRGF. This was a diverse and growing role where I took on new functions including as Manager of Government Relations and Chief Procurement Officer. Major Accomplishments• Drove and managed a complex and broad board and committee agenda, with a large and politically diverse board.• Delivered continuous improvement on board papers and compliance matters.• Provided proactive and timely legal advice on a wide range of legal and compliance matters. These included: contracts, intellectual property, workplace relations, OH&S, disputes, administrative law, privacy, risk management and FOI.• Developed a strong ‘trusted advisor’ relationship with the then Minister and her office. This included the provision of strategic advice on managing media, political and regulatory issues.• Established and managed the new role of Chief Procurement Officer.• Delivered key corporate business documents, such as the strategic business plan, risk register and a wide range of compliance policies.

Holley Nethercote Lawyers is a commercial and boutique financial services law firm. It also provides training and compliance services to businesses and government regulators. Major Accomplishments• Developed and presented training on regulatory matters, consumer law issues, anti money- laundering and counter terrorism finance, risk management, personal property securities, director’s duties, workplace safety laws and trade practices issues.

Holley Nethercote Lawyers is a commercial and boutique financial services law firm. It also provides training and compliance services to businesses and government regulators.I reported to the firm’s partners and to senior lawyers in my role as a ‘new’ lawyer and a regulatory compliance expert. Major Accomplishments• Advised on client files in areas such as financial services law (licensing), retail leases, corporations law, trademarks and trademark litigation, employment law, and workplace health and safety. • Developed and presented training on regulatory matters, consumer law issues, anti money- laundering and counter terrorism finance, risk management, personal property securities, director’s duties, workplace safety laws and trade practices issues.• Acted for clients subject of action by various regulators, including ACCC, ASIC and AUSTRAC.

The National Union of Workers is one of Australia’s largest private sector unions. It represents workers in diverse areas as storemen and packers, cold services storage, manufacturing, call centres and farm workers. My key achievements and responsibilities included:o Provided advice to union members, union officials and employers on workplace agreements, awards, workplace health and safety, remuneration and workcover.o Represented employees at Fair Work Australia hearings.

On secondment to assist the Minister to establish his office. I successfully managed Parliamentary business, including Cabinet documents, ERC papers and legislative forward programs.

Key achievements and Responsibilities: Successfully introduced the Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC) regulatory regime for the maritime industry, involving 80,000 people being enrolled, background checked and issued with an MSIC. Led a successful review of the regulatory and compliance regime for maritime and offshore oil and gas sectors. Successfully managed Ministerial and agency briefing for the National Counter Terrorism Cabinet Committee. Developed Cabinet submissions, new policy proposals and Regulatory Impact Statements. Directed a national project to promote enhanced maritime security planning.

Key achievements and Responsibilities:o Developed strong relationships (as a trusted advisor) with media, regulators, community activist groups, unions and business lobby groupso Delivered new policy proposals on regulating consumer credit, trade practices, product safety, food safety and a proposal for new consumer protection laws.o Excellent speech, op-ed and press release writer.
