About Melanie Edwards

I am a dedicated professional with a deep commitment to fostering relationships and building communities. From my earliest memories of befriending and comforting an anxious classmate on the first day of first grade to my present career, I have always been driven by a passion for connection and community development.Originally hailing from Southern California, I earned my Bachelor's degree in Journalism from the University of Kansas (KU) in 2017, accompanied by a minor in Leadership Studies. During my time at KU, I had the enriching opportunity to spend four months studying abroad in Sevilla, Spain, where I immersed myself in the local culture and honed my Spanish language skills. This experience sparked my love for travel and meeting individuals from diverse backgrounds, enabling me to gain invaluable insights into their cultures and lifestyles.Following my graduation, I embarked on a transformative journey in Israel. As a Global Jewish Service Corps Fellow with the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) in Jerusalem, I dedicated a year to supporting JDC-Tevet, Israel's preeminent employment incubator. In this role, I supported the development of employment models and services to empower and integrate vulnerable populations into the workforce. By facilitating meaningful interactions between donors and the field, I had the privilege of engaging with philanthropists who shared a common passion for making a difference and enabling individuals to advance professionally. This pivotal fellowship experience solidified my determination to pursue a career in Jewish communal service, encompassing my interests in global Jewry, interfaith work, wellness, mental health education, and community and relationship building. My unwavering dedication to the nonprofit sector stems from the profound impact it has on vulnerable communities. The ability to directly witness the transformative power of our work has been both motivating and inspiring. Throughout my professional journey, I have had the privilege of assuming diverse roles, which have equipped me with a comprehensive skill set across engagement, outreach, marketing, program development, fundraising, and donor relations.I am currently pursuing a Master of Social Work at California State University, Long Beach, and I am enjoying the way it aligns with my nonprofit experience.I look forward to connecting with you soon!
