As an EC teachers aide, I provided support in my class room for any and all activities throughout the day. This included helping a student individually, to providing a short lesson to the entire class, or supporting and supervising my students outside the classroom to tend to their personal needs. Individual support outside of the classroom for my students entailed tasks like aide in the restroom, beit by lifting or changing students, or feedings in the cafeteria either by mouth or specialized equipment. During this time I learned how to work efficiently in a team setting. Collectively, we properly organized our classrooms by cleaning, filing, and preparing work and activities for the following day. Our focus was to maintain consistency and cohesion in a safe environment for all of our students to succeed.

As a substitute teacher presenting subject material completely and in a timely scheduled manner as outlined in the lesson plans left by original teacher was the primary task. Aside from classroom instruction I also worked individually with a student as an aide on specific subjects such as math and or writing. Individually I would organize and lead activities designed to develop or improve mental, physical, and social skills through things like games, arts and crafts, music and storytelling. I would also tend to children’s basic needs in a scheduled and organized manner such as diaper changes, feedings, naps, dressing, and activities. All of this would be recorded and reported on a specialized computer system for daycare workers and parents to see. Aside from having fun and caring for the children I would also help facilitate teaching them proper manners, hygiene, and appropriate social interaction with others.
