Marketing & Communications Leader with Deep Experience in the Social SectorWhen I was 10, I rallied my friends to build a log cabin in the woods behind our suburban neighborhood. We worked as a team, evaluating the length and weight of each fallen log, dragging them through the woods, carefully stacking them and then filling the chinks with leaves. We didn’t know how to plan and execute a door, so we left a hole in the top to enter like a hatch on a submarine. The finished building was no more than 4 feet by 4 feet – only two of us could fit at a time. But you know what? Three kids built a log cabin, and we were damn proud. Today, I’m still a passionate leader, builder, collaborator, and problem solver with 20 years of experience in marketing and communications. My super power is leading at key inflection points – times of strategic shifts, new leadership, or aspirations for growth. Strategic Communications Director, East Africa Preterm Birth InitiativeUniversity Of California, San Francisco 2016 - 2018San Francisco, California, UsReporting directly to the principal investigator and playing a key role on the leadership team, I developed the communications function and led all communications efforts for this global health research initiative in East Africa funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. KEY ACHIEVEMENTS– Developed Tiny Hats for Tiny Babies, an integrated multi-channel digital media campaign. Formed a partnership with Warm Up America! Foundation that mobilized knitters from six countries (including 45 US states) to contribute 16,000 hats (14 times our goal) to provide life-saving warmth for preterm infants in East Africa. – Led the first stage of strategic planning by conducting mission-vision-values workshops in the US and East Africa, resulting in consensus among four country teams. PTBi-EA is a global health initiative, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation with research in Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda.– Collaborating with a documentary filmmaker, produced a series of videos that provided an overview of the research efforts and the fellowship. -
