Monash Medical Centre is a major public hospital servicing Melbourne’s diverse South Eastern suburbs. My role involves engaging directly with the public during the admissions stage of their visit to the emergency department. I am focussed on maintaining a sense of calm and control during an often traumatic and stressful experience for the patient. I work as part of a multidisciplinary team to register, admit, transfer and discharge patients. I complete hospital documentation and update electronic records that includes sensitive and time critical information relevant to patient care. I am also responsible for managing privately insured patient admissions, ambulance transfers in addition to telephone and email communications for the department.
