Making the Shift is a Youth Homelessness Social Innovation Lab with a mandate to contribute to the transformation of how we respond to youth homelessness through research and knowledge mobilization specific to youth homelessness prevention and housing stabilization. Making the Shift is also designated as a United Nations Economic Commission for Europe "Centre of Excellence," known as the "Toronto Centre of Excellence on Youth Homelessness Prevention at York University."Making the Shift Youth Homelessness Social Innovation Lab (MtS) is co-led by the Canadian Observatory on Homelessness at York University and A Way Home Canada where I am the co-Founder, President & CEO. A Way Home Canada is a national coalition reimagining solutions to youth homelessness through transformations in policy, planning and practice.We work with all orders of government, communities, services providers and philanthropy to create a policy, investment and service environment that enables a shift away from simply “managing” the problem of youth homelessness through emergency services to a more proactive, rights-based approach that focuses on prevention (stopping young people from becoming homeless in the first place) and helping those who are homeless move into housing with supports as rapidly as possible in a safe and planned way. The Mobilizing Local Capacity to End Youth Homelessness Program works with local communities to develop and implement plans to end youth homelessness. Intercordia Canada is a non-profit organization that partners with Canadian universities in order to offer students a unique, university accredited, engaged-learning experience. Consultant on monthly retainer for Intercordia Canada, which offers a unique model of service/experiential learning in the international context for Canadian university students. Consulted in the areas of online strategy, funding strategy development, board development, program evaluation and partnership development. In addition, led the organization and outside technical team to develop a new Web site with tools to strengthen and enhance program participants' reflective capacity while in international placement. Researched, piloted and implemented an innovative, qualitative evaluation/monitoring strategy that relies on the power of stories and the participation of all stakeholders.

Researched and wrote a critical report to imagine a comprehensive, cross-sectoral strategy in support of family literacy programs and services in Ontario. Researched models of inter-generational family literacy programs in 3 communities across the province. Report showcases these models and makes critical recommendations moving forward. Additional facilitation and convening with cross-sectoral stakeholders to implement a "constellation model" in support of this vision. Crafted a follow-up strategy and funding proposal for this model, which was recently funded for two years by HRSDC/OLES.

Core committee member for a pan-Canadian, multiple-pronged project that seeks to address isolation and loneliness in the disability and newcomer communities. Project included regular contribution to the project blog and additional writing for Abilities Magazine. The project is housed in the Plan Institute for Caring Citizenship in Vancouver, Canada.

Technology Consultant and Project Manager for the Community Learning Network - a pilot project in 3 rural communities to provide pre-employment programming to job-seekers, age 16-29, in remote communities. Researched and recommended an open-source learning management system and managed the tool implementation team. Immediately following, acted as project manager for project implementation across the province.Technology Consultant for an online human resource tool-set and calculator (http://compensationframework.org/) for fair wages in the employment services sector. Convened and managed the technical team in implementing proprietary tool-set and customizing additional tools.

Management consulting for collaborative project linking the Peter F. Drucker Canadian Foundation, Ashoka and the Centre for Social Innovation. Conducted research, analysis, resource identification, process facilitation, stakeholder management and overall project coordination for undertaking that maps, analyzes and celebrates innovative social mission sector models using Web-based technology.

Engaged in fund development (crafted successful proposals, developed public-private funding partnerships, as well as creative fund-raising events), advocacy network building, lobbying at state and federal levels and online learning initiatives. Created and taught courses in epilepsy care and management to health care workers and families in community centers and health care centers. Directed annual summer camp for children impacted by epilepsy. Managed staff in two states (Washington and Oregon) and regularly interfaced with Board of Directors to lead committees and develop Board capacity. Honored by national Epilepsy Foundation and Centers for Disease Control for "program innovation" for ground-breaking online learning project for health care practitioners in rural areas.

Helped build the Independent Media Center from the ground up. Supported national media reform initiatives. Traveled to new independent media sites throughout U.S. to provide training and support. Created intake and orientation program to develop core group of 40 volunteers and to distribute throughout the Independent Media Center network. Coordinated volunteer efforts at various community events. As member of spokescouncil (governing board), represented members at large to governing body.

Managed community living program for people impacted by developmental disabilities and chronic mental illness. Managed staff, oversaw budgets, conducted training, interfaced with health care practitioners, and acted as an advocate on behalf of clients.Acquired Washington State Mental Health Specialty Certification
