MELANIE SCHIELE is an award-winning screenwriter, director, and producer from Brooklyn, NY. She is among 32 pioneering MFA-Film Production graduates of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts Asia, with festival premieres and awards spanning Tribeca, Atlanta, Palm Springs, Bilbao, Portland, Traverse City, BAMcinemaFest, Brazil, Maine, San Francisco, Cinefiesta, Los Angeles, and Singapore. Her directorial debut film DELILAH, BEFORE premiered at Palm Springs ShortFest, won Best Short at the Tribeca Film Festival, and was distributed via Tribeca’s YouTube Screening Room and the global platform Viki. Her follow-up short ROCKAWAY premiered in "New Mavericks, Women Directors" program at the Atlanta Film Festival and earned awards in writing, directing, and acting on the festival circuit. It was distributed via Film Festival Collective and NoBudge.In addition to an MFA degree, Melanie has a BFA in Screenwriting from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, where she completed the 4-year intensive writing program in only 2 years as an internal transfer student from NYU's College of Arts & Sciences as an English major. She was recognized as a University & Alumnae Club Scholar, Tisch Merit Scholar, Dean's Fellow, Governor's Committee Scholar, and Paulette Goddard Scholar.Melanie's feature drama screenplay BUTTERFLY CHILDREN won the Grand Prize in Slamdance's Screenwriting Competition (from 2500 entries). It has received over 40 accolades to date, including those from Nicholl, PAGE, CineStory, ScreenCraft, American Zoetrope, Script Pipeline, Cinequest, Stowe Story Labs, Fade In Awards, Scriptapalooza, WeScreenplay, Emerging Screenwriters, Geena Davis' Bentonville Film Festival, Atlanta Film Festival, Napa Valley Film Festival, and NYU's Fusion Film Festival. It also won First Place at the Vail Film Festival and made the NYU Purple List, a prestigious selection of scripts from alumni, in addition to the inaugural Wscripted Cannes Screenplay List.Melanie is developing projects for film and television while freelancing as a programming consultant and script reader for major festivals, labs, and studios. She is well-versed in audience engagement, fundraising, and has spoken on panels addressing the need for creating strong female roles. She has written about her own endeavors to achieve this in Tribeca's Future of Film and Women & Hollywood columns and continually advocates for new artistic voices to be heard, emphasizing the importance of community over competition.
