My role was to make people from any and every background feel welcome and to show them a good time. Working in a hotel bar for Marriott is a bit different from most bars because the clientele are mostly white collar business men and women. In addition, I had the pleasure of getting to know a diverse range of men and women on an intimate level. It would be a normal day for me to meet and get to know a man from Hong Kong, and then just a few hours later, a woman from Stockholm. Combine all of this in the context of being the face for a top 1000 corporation, that does more than 14 billion dollars in sales annually, in a job environment that is nearly wholly comprised of soft skills. This is a position where delivering a great product means getting strangers to like you; thinking at light speed; being flexible; creating solutions in a cross functional team environment, as well as being consistently great; and consistently consistent. All of this simultaneously is what I did for a living while obtaining my first degree to gain the experience that I needed to help me thrive in an office, on a team, and in the corporate world.
