I worked closely with the SACD Director and the deputy directors of the Core Resource Units, Product Units and Business Units to ensure that all plans and tasks are consistent and well integrated within the overall Center strategy and operating plan. I shared responsibility with the Director for identifying SACD user and funder needs; I ensured the adequacy of systems analyses in concert with the Directorate’s Chief Engineer. I was responsible for implementing the Directorate’s Strategic and Innovation Plans. I strengthened partnerships between SACD and Goddard Space Flight Center. I partnered with the deputies of the Engineering Directorate and the Research Directorate to provide concept-to-flight services to the product units; I was responsible for the transition of personnel from the TEAMS 2 pre-procurement team to the Source Evaluation Board. I recommended personnel changes; resolved informal complaints; and, in an effort to expose junior staff to the merits of Space Systems Analysis, I was responsible for executing a 6-week summer program in Systems Analysis conducted by the National Institute of Aerospace. I am expert in Open Innovation – the need for companies to exploit the developments and products of competing and ancillary companies in the execution of its business plan. I have been engaged, in partnership with the Space Life Sciences Directorate at Johnson Space Center, in applying open innovation tools and methodologies in the solution of scientific problems. I have conducted two global open innovation challenges in the areas of sensor swarms, planetary protection and assaying life beyond Earth. I maintain contact with my customers at Headquarters, Johnson Space Center and Johns Hopkins University’s Applied Physics Laboratory and other Centers. -
